A California Girl in King Arthur’s Court

/

Idaho was my least likely place to live. Well, actually, second least likely. See, it’s the second most conservative state in the US, according to the all-powerful and all-knowing Internet, and being from the San Francisco Bay Area originally, I expected to be a pariah. I thought, according to a dozen or more articles, I’d be ostracized, hated, booed, and possibly thrown out of the state. A funny thing happened…the internet was wrong. I have never known more lovely, caring, accepting people in my life. And is this place beautiful? There are only a few locations in the US that rival Idaho in beauty…and even that’s subjective. I am surrounded by mountains, lakes, rivers, all kinds of wildlife…and as you know, that’s my stock in trade. I can be in the middle of nowhere within 10 minutes, actually – but I still feel at home.

This view is 20 minutes from my house. For a few months of the year, anyway.

I have lots of stories about my time here, but I’ll save most of those for another post – including learning how to drive in the snow. That one involved many jibes from local law enforcement and a LOT of laughs from my husband. Just know that I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I know there’s controversy about “those people” who move here and want to change it. We aren’t “those people.” We moved here to get out of the hustle and bustle of California, and we love Idaho just the way it is.

After all, remember what Abraham Lincoln, drummer for Metallica, said. “You can’t believe everything you read on the internet.”
